MAY 5, 2024 - IMPORTANT NEWS - JUNIOR COCHIN CASH PROGRAM
At our April 28th Board of Directors meeting, the Board elected to take the following action regarding our Junior Cochin Cash Program:
COCHINS INTERNATIONAL JUNIOR COCHIN CASH PROGRAM
By Rich Barczewski
Cochins International is proud to have a very active Junior Program which is run by Lacy Michall and recently the board increased funding to provide the necessary funds to keep the program running. One issue that has been a problem for the club is the Cochin Cash program that was originally started and supposed to have been based on items donated to the program; however, for various reasons, that has never come to pass as proposed. The cash was awarded; however, donated items were not acquired to make the program go. Because of this, the board decided to stop awarding Cochin Cash as of June 1, 2024. Additionally, individuals who currently have Cochin Cash will be able to spend their Cochin Cash for up to 50 percent of the cost of any items currently in our Cochin Merchandise Store up until May 31, 2025. Individuals redeeming the Cochin Cash will have to pay the shipping cost and 50% of the list price of the items they purchase, but after May 31, 2025, the program will stop.
It should be noted that the Junior program currently awards a personalized jacket to any member who achieves Master Exhibitor Status. They also are awarded Belt Buckles for Top Exhibitor in Bantam and Large fowl based on the number of points accumulated in the program over the course of a year. Additionally, they are also awarded Best of Breed and Reserve of Breed pins for and BB and RB won at the shows.
We regret having to make this decision, but we will continue to look for ways to enhance and grow our Junior Program. Unfortunately, this specific part of the program has not been functioning as designed.

Attention Juniors! Cochins International has greatly expanded our Junior Master Exhibitor Program in 2015!! The Junior Master Exhibitor Program is an achievement program open to youth from ages 5-18 who are members of Cochins International. Our club wishes for this program to serve as an incentive for juniors to learn more about the proper care, breeding and exhibition of both bantam and large fowl cochins.
Points to achieve Junior Master Exhibitor status may be earned in a variety of ways. First, Cochins International is in partnership with the Youth Exhibition Poultry Association; therefore, points may be earned from joining YEPA, completing the YEPA Coop-Tender Book, and participating in youth showmanship at poultry shows. Please see the YEPA website at www.youthexhibitionpoultry.org for more information on becoming a member of YEPA, participating in showmanship, and other educational opportunities. Next, juniors may earn points by exhibiting cochins in an APA/ ABA Sanctioned Junior Poultry show, obtaining help from an adult mentor, or completing a poultry-related service project. Junior Master Exhibitor Status is earned when a junior member earns 3,500 points and there are no time limits for completion. Completion of the Breeding and Hatching Form is also required.
In addition to the new Junior Master Exhibitor Program, Junior members of Cochins International may earn achievement pins for Best of Breed or Reserve of Breed wins with their cochins in either an Open or Junior APA/ABA sanctioned show. These pins look great on the lapel of a showmanship coat, show apron, or hat! Also, beginning in the Spring of 2016, a scholarship award program for graduating high school seniors who plan to attend college in the fall or CI members who are currently enrolled in college will be offered. Watch for more details to come in future newsletters or on the CI website.
For complete details about the new Cochin International Junior Program or membership information, please visit the Cochins International website www.CochinsInt.com. Questions may also be directed to Ross Treffert, Junior Program Chair, at [email protected].

October, 2013 - Attached are photos of my daughter, Krissy Busby's, wins the last two weekends at shows in Alabama. Under 5 judges, she and her bantam white frizzled Cochin pullet, Ruffles, never went less than Champion Featherleg and won Junior Show Champion twice! Here are pictures of her. I am very proud of her. She and I joined Cochins International last October but she just started showing this month. It took a special bird, bred by Judy Gantt, to get her fully interested. She adores her bird. At her first show in Boaz, October 12th, she took Champion Featherleg under the first judge and then went Junior Show Champion under the second judge. Krissy was ecstatic! Last weekend we showed at the AL Bantam Club triple points show. I warned Krissy that winning the entire show her first time out might be a tough act to follow, but follow it she did! The judges commented both times not only on the quality of the bird, but how well groomed and clean she was. Krissy did ALL her show prep. She and Ruffles managed to win Junior Show Champion two weekends in a row! Krissy really wants to put her pin on her new lab coat and start working through the Showmanship program in the APA/ABA Junior club (she joined that last year, too). We will have Ruffles in Knoxville, along with her sister and two smooth white Cochin boys (one from Judy and one generously given to Krissy by Linda Merrill). Thanks for allowing me to share! NOTHING compares to seeing my daughter and her little fluffy pullet do so well in the junior shows. ~Submitted by proud Mom Deb Sims
